The Confederation Spirometry Service has been developed to ensure that local residents have access to a diagnostic spirometry service. The decision was made to create a ‘drive through’ service so that any risks to both patients and staff are minimised, and so that we can still provide this valuable service.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be able to travel to the site either by car or via public transport or walking.
  • You must be registered with a Hillingdon GP that has opted into using this service.
  • You must not already have been diagnosed with asthma or COPD
  • You must be at least 16 and have been referred by your registered GP.
  • You should not have recently have had eye surgery or been diagnosed with retinal detachment.
  • You should not have had a chest infection or recent exacerbation of your symptoms within the last 4 weeks.
  • You should not have uncontrolled glaucoma
  • You should not have had Recent thoracic or abdominal surgery in last three months;
  • You should not have broken your ribs within the last three months
  • You should not be awaiting any urgent healthcare referrals such as a cancer referral.
  • You should not currently be covid 19 positive.

Once your GP has assessed you as appropriate for the service and processed the referral you will be contacted by one of our administrators who will run through a short health questionnaire with you and book you an appointment with our service. You will be asked to bring any current inhalers or spacers with you.

When you attend for your appointment, you will be seen in our drive through service. You may be able to remain in your vehicle, if you attend on foot you will be asked to sit in our outdoor marquee.

The clinicians will introduce themselves and the procedure, they may need to measure your weight and height beforehand as this affects your diagnosis. You will then undertake the spirometry procedure which involves blowing into a machine to assess your lung function, this only takes a few minutes. The clinicians will check the information has been recorded and you can then leave the site.

Your results will be sent to your GP within 2 days, your GP can then use the results of this test to assist in their diagnosis.

Our site address is: Fountains Mill Young Peoples Centre, 81 High Street, Uxbridge, UB8 1JR
