What is Blood Pressure?

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a common condition that affects the body's arteries. This occurs when the pressure in your blood vessels is too high (140/90 mmHg or higher).

You can get your blood pressure tested at a number of places, including:

• Your local GP surgery who may have blood pressure monitors available in practice to loan out to patients
• Your local participating library within Hillingdon offering the ‘Blood pressure monitor loan scheme’: Blood pressure monitor loan scheme - Hillingdon Council

• Your local community pharmacy if you're aged 40 and over, and are eligible: Find a pharmacy that offers free blood pressure checks

Blood pressure devices for home use
If you want to check your blood pressure regularly at home, you can buy a digital blood pressure machine: Buy approved Blood Pressure Monitors | British Heart Foundation (bhf.org.uk). Choose a machine that measures your blood pressure at your upper arm, not your wrist or finger.
