We call ourselves ‘The Confederation’. However our formal name is “The Confederation, Hillingdon CIC”. We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) formed from 43 GP practices in Hillingdon, West London.
The Confederation was formed to:
- Improve patient care for the patients of our member practices, which is very closely matched to the population of the London Borough of Hillingdon.
- Make General Practice in Hillingdon sustainable and an attractive place to work through collaboration, the provision of support services, development of the underpinning infrastructure and support and development of the primary care workforce – releasing time for hard pressed clinicians.
- Provide a vehicle through which General Practice can work at scale to provide efficient and effective patient care.
- Build relationships with the wider NHS and other key partners such as Brunel University and the local Council, to develop joined up, localised, high quality patient care services
We initially formed as a private limited company with the local GP members as shareholders. In 2019 we converted to a CIC so that the purpose of the Confederation to promote the Community Interest, to reinvest in that local community and not to take any value or assets out of that community could be explicitly recognised. We remain GP owned, which helps us maintain our agility, decisiveness, innovation and support for General Practice with a focus on localism and providing care close to patients.
